I used this saw for drilling holes in a stainless steel tank. It cuts a clean, circular hole very quickly. I used it in my milling machine for several holes, but later discovered that it works remarkably well with an 18v hand drill as well. Using appropriate speeds and lubricants for the materials involved (e.g., go slow when drilling stainless steel), I think this tool would last practically forever. The size of the hole is just about perfect for welded connections to 1 1/2" sanitary piping.Pleased with purchasePerfectWorks surprisingly well, definitely impressed. I worked one of these pretty hard cutting (36) 1-1/2" holes in 0.06" wall mild steel box tubing and it still has plenty of life left. No major chips in the carbide teeth - definitely worn, but still very usable. I still have about a dozen holes to go and I suspect it will make it.I bought a couple of traditional bi-metal hole saws as backup, but I don't think I'll be needing them. This thing worked well in an 18V Dewalt cordless, though the drill nearly melted down after 15-20 holes. I switched over to a traditional 120V hand drill, and that was nearly smoking by the end as well. This bit is actually a better match for slow speed setting on the cordless as the AC drill really went too fast and didn't have as much torque to drive this thing. I used some thick cutting oil from my mill which seemed to help a lot.The Makita carbide hole saw has tungsten carbide teeth that cut a lot faster than the tiny high speed steel teeth of a bi-metal hole saw. The tungsten carbide teeth stay sharp a lot longer. Good for stainless steel which can get harder as it is being drilled if it gets hot.We have started to use the new Blue Boar TCT hole cutters for stainless steel instead of the Makita and Greenlee ones. The Blue Boar cost half as much and cut just as well and we like being able to use them on a regular hole saw mandrel and that they use 1/4" pilot bits. If we break a pilot bit out in the field we can use a HSS pilot bit from another arbor and not stop the job.
